The Rolling
(thrl)
+ + + + + + +
Initial Roll (itil)
When a cat attempts to find prey, a Staff member needs to moderate the thread and roll a singe 100-sided die. Even if the season is a "lean" season, such as Leaf-Bare, the Staff will still roll one 100-sided die.
Finding (find)
Depending on the result of the initial roll and the individual's skill level, they may be able to catch prey. In order to up your chances to find prey, you must have a medium or high Track skill. No matter what the season, an individual will get an added bonus to the initial roll to determine if they find their prey. These bonuses are called Track Points, or TP. TP can be added or subtracted, depending on if the individual's roll was greater or less than the "scent range".
Example: The season is Leaf-Bare. Three cats are on patrol; Redfeather, Talonscar and Goosewing. All three attempt to find prey. Redfeather has a medium-level Track skill, while Goosewing has a high Track skill and Talonscar has a low Track skill.
A Staff member rolls for each cat:
-- Redfeather; 99 | +5 TP / 99 - 5 = Rolled a 94 -- Talonscar; 56 -- Goosewing; 0 | +10 TP / 0 + 10 = Rolled a 10
The Roll needed in Leaf-Bare to scent prey is 1 - 10.
Result: Redfeather and Talonscar don't pick up any scents... Goosewing picks up the scent of thrush and follows it.
Catching (ctch)
Depending on the result of the initial roll and the individual's skill level, they may be able to catch prey. In order to up your chances to catch prey, you must have a medium or high Stalk skill. No matter what the season, an individual will get an added bonus to the initial roll to determine if they actually catch their prey*. These bonuses are called Catch Points, or CP. CP can be added, subtracted, or ignored depending on if the individual's roll was over, under, or in the required "catch range".
* This roll is omitted if the individual failed to scent any prey.
Example continued: The season is Leaf-Bare. The same three cats are on patrol; Redfeather, Talonscar and Goosewing. All three attempted to find & catch prey. Redfeather has a low-level Stalk skill, while Goosewing has a medium Stalk skill and Talonscar has a high Stalk skill.
When they find the thrush, Goosewing is able to catch it.
Because Goosewing rolled within the required "catch range", her +2 CP were ignored, as they weren't needed. See below for more information.

Modifications
(mods)
+ + + + + + +
Skill Levels (skll)
Once the Staff have rolled the initial roll, they will then take into account the skill levels of the individual characters in question. Every rank, depending on the level of their skill, may receive special modifications. Apprentices, naturally, will have a smaller bonus compared to the warriors, and the warriors will have a smaller bonus compared to their leaders. There are two modifications that can be made for finding and catching prey:
Track Points, or TP, are used to modify the individual's ability to find prey.
Catch Points, or CP, are used to modify the individual's ability to actually catch the prey.
When it comes to how many TP/CP you get as a bonus for your higher skill levels, the points could range from 1 - 5 CP and 3 - 11 TP. Consult this section of the Skills thread.
Seasonal Impact (ssni)
Depending on the season, prey may be harder or easier to find. For example, prey will be hardest to find in Leaf-Bare, when most of it slips into their burrows until Newleaf. When Newleaf arrives, the population of different kinds of prey may rise, as Newleaf also brings new life. By Greenleaf, the prey population may be fairly high until Leaf-Fall, when prey starts to restock their food for the upcoming Leaf-Bare.
